Tree Tuesday – My very first LITH PRINT ever!
It was a struggle to get my basement renovation finished, and when it finally happened, it was a kinda scary thing to getting to “know” my new (used, but new to me…) huge enlarger!
But I think we’ve gotten to know each other a bit now, so today, on Tree Tuesday, I proudly present my very first lith print, a kind of tentative gently attempt which required some measures, both longer exposure time and development time, but that ended up being quite good, at least for being the first time ever, though I can see I was too chicken with both the exposure and the development time.It can only be better… 😀
This is so fun, and I can’t wait to go back there again, to my new cave…..
I am so very curious about this with lith printing, it feels so right for my expression, and I will do everything possible to learn more about this technique, and toning as well.
Now I can really do it, in my new darkroom …..

This is gorgeous. What wonderful texture. I do not know photography that well, so I don’t know what a “lith” print is. I look forward to seeing more of what you can do with this process!

Lith printing is a chemical process done in the traditional darkroom with special developer chemicals, and those who have the knowledge of this process can make the most stunning images with wonderful tones and expressions. I can’t wait to learn more of it and hopefully be able to manage it fairly good some day.
That would be a dream….. This is just a start…. 🙂

This image is wonderful and the toning and type of print is so right for this image . I am sure that your wish to learn more about these techniques will be a journey for us all and i can only speak for myself but I m excited about your forth coming results. Yes, if you have a darkroom you can do it for sure! The only “different” thing you need is the developer, and you have to make sure your paper will lith, otherwise you may have to get another paper, but there is some great papers that you can use for both lith and “usual” black and white prints.
I found this most excellent book at Amazon for a decent price some time ago;

Well, I went ahead and explored my darkroom, checking all the cabinets, and I actually found some lith developer! However, it looks really old. I’d imagine there’s a shelf life on lith developer, so I have a feeling it’s no good. I’m going to try to get up to Seoul sometime soon to see if I can some new, fresh lith developer. Aside from that, I just need to do some research and I should be on my way to making lith prints too! Very cool stuff, thanks again for your help and info. Take care ~

Everything here is just great. It has been a tumultuous time though, and I think I have ended up in some kind of period of rest, both physically, and also in the creative process. I will write about it in a post soon, but I do need to give it some more thoughts first.
